The SpeedQuizzing system has changed the way people today approach quiz events, but more specifically it has enabled the Great British pub quiz to evolve into something new. Gone is the slow pace. Gone is the cheating (that has undermined the integrity of pen and paper quizzes for years) and the days where quiz contestants actually have to mark each others question sheets is thankfully a thing of the past.
SpeedQuizzing’s game software heralds a new age of high-energy quizzing where the fast-paced game style takes trivia nights to a new level while ensuring it is impossible to cheat.
Each team uses a smartphone or tablet connected directly to our SpeedQuizzing hub and rather than having an unspecified amount of time to write an answer down, teams are given a time-limit (sometimes as short as 10 seconds) to decide on an answer and input it using the keypad on their device screen. This gives players considerably less time to attempt to cheat!
Generally answers are submitted by a single tap on the device screen. IE. first letter of the answer, or multiple-choice (A.B.C.D etc). Extra points are awarded to the fastest team, who will hear their individual buzzer sound ringing out from the sound system!
In “Buzzin” rounds, teams compete to give their answer verbally to the host by being fastest on the buzzer, scoring points for a correct answer or getting frozen out for a wrong answer.
Scoring is taken care of automatically by the software with the leader-board being accessible at any point throughout the event.
Unlike a traditional pub-quiz the answers are revealed immediately after each question, causing increased social interaction between team-members as well as maximum banter between competing teams.
Our host Simon Long will make sure everyone is entertained with a varied blend of questions, including picture questions (sent directly to device screens) and sound clip rounds. Content can be tailored to appeal to a range of age groups, abilities and specific interests.
As with any quiz, the team with the greatest knowledge will usually win, but with the available points increasing as the rounds progress, places can change very quickly and everyone’s interest is maintained right up to very the last question!
